I got back at it tonight and I pulled out the remaining two check valve bushings with a tool the same as the in the photo a couple of pages along. It wouldn't shift my pressure regulator valve bushing though. I think I need a bigger bolt and larger hose. I also extracted all of the small allen headed pipe plugs. There was a lot of dirt behind some of them. I also pulled down the thermal relief valves and found some dirt in up there. It's all looking reasonable so far and I might even get it back together again :) tractorsam

Looks great-
Just a tip I read on a IH service bulletin.
When reinserting the control valves do so from the back side-Not thru the head side of touch control block as this can cut or damage O-ring.
Just passing this along-I tried it while I had mine apart-Glad I read the bulletin
have fun

Glad to hear progress was made today, Sam. At this rate (and given the upcoming forecast) I might get to plow snow with it yet. It won't be much snow, and I might have to shovel the snow from the lawn into the driveway first, but thats not the point!

Hey, P&R Pete...if you're learning off Sam's experience on my touch control, does this mean you're will to donate funds to replace said touch control should something bad though not totally unexpected occur? I can provide an address to mail the check

I got into to it today and pulled pistons and valves. Most of it went well, but I can't remove the safety valve piston from the block (part #20, page# 27, Touch Control - Serviceman's Handbook, GSS-1024).

Also, when I turn the block over, I hear a noise (part rattle) that came about after I pulled all the valves and pistons. Any ideas?

Cool!
Keep it coming. We're back to my original plan of learning off your experience! LOL

I was going to start mine today, but wound up retrieving my block, head, crank, and connecting rods back from the machinist, and spending the balance of the day trying to get a new dishwasher in.

Always something. (*sigh*)

Hopefully I'll get some pictures up with my next post. If I can finnish pulling stuff apart tomorrow then maybe I can wash everything on saturday and I'll be ready to start reassembly.

I know what you mean about there being lots to do. I'm currently attending college (heavy equipment repair) where I have two tractors apart, I'm working on two of my tractors (Super C and an MF 35), working on approximately five old Farmall's up at the local IH dealer (who very fortunately is also an antique IH enthusiast) not to mention the truck he's restoring and the pulling sled we're building. Plus the usual day to day stuff and the odd old tractor. All darn good fun though.

I'm going to end up stuck at this rate though as I'll get the touch control done before the engine is back together again. Oh well, it won't take long once I get the new timing gears on their shafts. tractorsam
