Careful here..... ...

If you are doing this and masking certain areas off then cool but just dont start spraying it without covering joints, seals, ports, etc.
I'd be damn sure to wrap a rag around the axle where it comes out of the housing to protect the seal and keep sand out. Also the front main, PTO, steering knuckles, etc.

I would never sandblast an assembled tractor just to make it look pretty. If I wasn't taking the tractor apart, I would steam clean, use a good paint stripper, and then use the angle grinder with a wire brush. When you sandblast, that sand gets into many places you don't want it to. Any external seals, vent holes, moving parts that are greased (like the clutch shaft and brake shafts)will all have sand imbedded in them. I sandblast my tractors when I restore them, but only after disassembly and only parts that can be thoroughly cleaned afterward to remove any residual sand and parts that don't make any difference like rear wheels, brackets, etc. Roger

Use methylene chloride paint stripper. It may take 2 or 3 applications, but the excess paint will come off pretty fast. Finish with the angle grinder and various brushes on an electric drill. Don't know that I would trust a commercial sandblaster on assembled tractors, or myself either for that matter.

Pat: A good rough estimate on a pro sandblast job would be approx. 250 - 350 for entire tractor. That is what the market is for a portable sandblast job here in central Indiana. That would turn your H into a nice white metal peice ready for paint! Good luck!!!

Here in extreme SW NC sandblasting goes for $80 per hour plus sand. I tried to sandblast my M and then took it to a professional and they prepare it at $80 per hour. So--best to get it all prepared(taped areas rags etc) before he does it . Takes around 2-3 hour depending on the paint. Henry
