Looking at Farmall 450 Diesel with Fast Hitch that works good, working power steering, narrow front, good TA, good brakes, fenders, working pto but clutch may be a little soft, pretty good sheetmetal, new 15.5-38 rear tires, needs all new emblems. Runs good on both gas and diesel with one injector hanging up a bit but comes out of it after 5 minutes of run time. This tractor has been shedded and covered but not used much in the last five years. The owner is quite motivated to sell and will put in a full set of front and rear weights. Ballpark or closer figures on what these are bringing. Thanks much. Migraine

Migraine----- -I think (Soft In The Head) are the key words in these discussions. One or two good gasoline start/diesel tractors doesn't make them a good rig. There is an MD on the YT ads right now that runs fine for $2500. The guy started out about 3 mths ago asking $4500. I would bet you can buy it for $1500 cash. The Start on gasoline/diesel collectors don't seem to beating down his door to buy it. A fair price for a 450 diesel is about $2500 and you are taking a big chance at that price. The head alone will cost you about $1000 to replace if you should need one. I have had several of those jewels and I won't buy another.

Rick is right. Good economical engine, if it does not use oil, I like them and they start well. Parts are pricy, but if shut down after idling to mormalize temps, they last The archives have a bunch of posts on the issue of shutdown. (and opinions) JimN

The gas start diesels are an interesting breed in the fact that years ago they used to be one of the most despised tractors on the market. 30 years ago an MD wouldnt bring $1000.00 no matter how clean it was or nice it ran. Now days they seem to have quite a following. I personally have a soft spot in my heart for them although I'm not so sure that spot would exist if I had to ask it to earn its keep.

Rick, You must live in a different part of Mn. 30 years ago there was 4 MD's in 2 miles here. 2 of them are still here and a 3rd only moved a short distance, all are still being used regularly. Chuck

We had a farmer in the neighborhood that always had a number of them around as well. My only point was that for every buyer, there would be a dozen people that couldnt run away from them fast enough. Being from just outside the Twin Cities and the explosive growth we have experienced the last 30 years, we are down to just a few large farmers in our area now. With all the collectors, there are more gas start diesels in my area now than there were 30 years ago.

The one I brought back to life gave great service after being wothout exhaust for 3 years. Some patience and the reward is just fine. JimN

Anything under $3500.00 should be considered cheap.

$2500 tops. Those engines are known for problems.

Thanks for the replies. Looks like I can get it bought for 1500 so should be fine and have some room to work on a few things. It really drives and works nice. Migraine
