I have a 560 diesel with that oil bath air cleaner I took it off and cleaned it and took a air hose and blew air through that steel wool looking stuff and not much air came through the top It just seems the tractor would really have to suck hard to get any air through it so im thinking about putting a dry one on like my 656 has with the filter so I guess I was just looking for some feed back on what you guys think if its a bad idea or just a preference thing

if by top you mean the air cleaner inlet, blowing up through the mesh won't let anything out the top. the mesh goes to the intake of your engine. the inlet for the air cleaner is like a chimney down the center of all that wool. the air comes down to the cup area, then goes up through the wetted mesh (the first couple revs of the engine draw a film of oil onto the mesh) and into the engine. if the mesh does not look full of rust, grime or sludge or any obstructions, it is likely fine.

Our 560 got used on the picker & we cleaned the oil bath cleaner every day. Would hate to think how many filter elements would have bit the dust had we not had the oil bath cleaner. Be sure that the "false cup" gets taken out when you clean the bottom cup.

The amount of air you get from a compressed air hose is miniscule to the amount of air that passes through that air filter. In other words, your method of testing is not a very good test. You would need to funnel all of the air from something like a window fan through the air filter before you could really detect any blockage.
