What would cause the power steering on a 1466 to lock up- (extremely hard to turn wheel) and exhibit no power brakes?

Our 1566 will do the same thing. We have been told by our Case/IH mechanic that there is an O-ring on the suction tube for the hydraulic pump that has gone bad. The solution without a major teardown is to fill the hydraulic system about 3-4 gallons over full and you should have no problem if that is what the problem is. I understand that it is quite a job to put a $0.75 o-ring in. Ours will run fine until the hy-tran gets a little low and as soon as you start to go up a little incline, you lose steering and brakes and I believe we also lose the hydraulics. It seems to be worse if it is cold.

That describes my problem exactly right down to the incline and cold weather. Thanks for the insight!!!!

I"d say you might have a blocked filter or port in your MCV/hydraulic pump.

I don"t have a 66 series tractor, but on the 06, the steering and brakes are controlled via the hydraulic pump.
