I need help before i spend 9200 on a 1206 that was in a burning building. This tractor starts and runs the best everything works as it should nothing looks wore out or accts like it was damaged. It has everything but dual pto. front whts, new tires third link ect. However the plastic IH on the front melted off and the plastic coating on the shift levers is bubbled steering wheel isnt melted but lets off black and the hood and fenders have melted shingle on them. This tractor was restored prior to the fire .What do you guys think? thanks

If the fire did not get hot enough to burn the tires off, the steel parts will generally be OK.

Priced about $5k too high for a tractor needing that kind of work.

Thanks for the number. If you decide not to buy the 1206, can you let us know the owner name, location and possibly recheck the serial number for accuracy. A picture would also help.

There a few folks on another forum that are keeping a log of as many 1206's as they can find. They've got over 700 I think. thanks again and let us know what you decide. Good Luck. Paul

Hi, seems like the price is high. These tractors are going for generally $5-$8k unrestored. I've seen a few sell for $8-$10k for an average restoration. Professional restoration fetches much more...maybe $12k or more. There is one listed for $19k for several months on another website, so that seems outrageous and therefore no sale. Regardless, as the previous post said, these tractors are a hot commodity. But I have no regrets owning one..great HP and one of the nicest looking IH made, IMO.

Much of the value depends on the quality of the restoration and the origionality of the parts on the tractor. Every 12 that I've come across has the dual PTO, although many don't have a rack of weights which are priced around .75 cents+ a pound.

I guess I'd be concerned if the fire did any damage to the orings, turbo, etc., which can be pricy to fix. Check and see if the turbo is Solar..that is origional and getting very difficult to find.

Frankly, your taking a chance being the 12 was in a fire, but just get ready to spend some more money when you get it home. Can you let me know the serial number please? thx Paul

I agree with Allan. Sounds high to me, but I base my opinions on what it would be worth for me to farm with instead of collector value.

It's not supposed to have the dual PTO. All old tractors "black yer hands" in time.

Doesn't sound like it was even hurt that much.

Personally, I wouldn't own one of the things and I think the price is WAY, WAY too high, but they are the latest "fad" tractor and demand will always drive the prices. When new, that tractor probably sold for less than nine grand.

But, if it's what you want, go get it. Sure wouldn't worry about the condition.

Allan
