been working on this ole super m. flywheel is pretty rusted up, must have gotten water in there or just plain condensation. the pressure plate on the clutch has got some pretty good pits in it as well as the flywheel. can the pressure plate be machined down some ? if so does anybody know how much? also how much can be taken down on the flywheel? the disk still had some meat left, so at least the rivets dint eat into anything.

They would have to be pits which cover more than 20% of the face area before I would worry about it. Many small and deep pits are not a problem.

Put in a new clutch plate, the old one may not last.

Have your flywheel ground with a grinder made for that purpose as they wont take verry much off. Take too much and then the pressure plate wont have enough pressure to hold clutch plate tight enough this has happened. If smaller engine and used for lite work no big deal but large hp and heavy loads it gets important in a hurry.

The flywheel is machinable to a large depth (maybe .100"). Always get the surface for the pressure plate ground down to the same amount removed from the friction surface, this keeps the geometry correct.
On the P Plate, If it is pitted or deeply cracked, replace it. Removing even .020" will reduce the holding power. There is no way to keep the Squeeze depth correct (the mounting flange must not be thinned). JimN

The flywheel can be machined, don't know how much. I doubt if the remaining pits after machining will make any difference. I had my Super H clutch machined. Mike at Steel Wheel Ranch can have a rebuilt Hy Capacity clutch drop shipped to you in less than a week, any doubt at all about the clutch, that is the way to go.

Not the SH clutch machined, the flywheel.
