I thought I already posted this but I guess not (the memory is going):
I'm sitting here daydreaming several hours away from from my 1940 m which is shedded for the winter. I am already thinking about the spring and decided that the fan belt is dry and hard, so better get a new one now.
Value-Bilt shows two different lengths. A forum search here show a third length. The owner's manual and partial service manaual are no help. my daydream has turned into a headache. What length do i need for the fan belt?
Thanks

There is only one fan belt that will fit the M, and only one generator belt.

If it is not critical to replace ASAP wait. Wait until spring until you have your tractor. Take the belt off and go to the dealer and buy a good qaulity belt. That way you will be sure to have the right one.

My parts book shows 2 belts for M but one is regular duty and the other is heavy duty and either one of these will work. Bought belt for my 1940 M from IH dealers a while back, when I told them I wanted M belt they went back and brought one out and did not ask about year serial number or anythihg.

Use a string and measure it.

Do they ever need new fan belts?

I don't think I've ever put one on except an H that broke years ago.

Keep it just tight enough to spin the fan.
