Super A Dead Battery

I have a dead battery on my Super A. It's a 6 volt and around 5 yrs old. Probably need a new one. The system has positive ground. I tried to jump start using one of those 12v portable jumpstarters. I accidentally put the negative clamp on a bolt away from the starter post and touched the starter with the positive clamp. Got some arching. Did I fry any electrical stuff?

I'm going to remove the generator, regulator, and battery and have it all tested at a local repair shop. I just want to know if I messed up the starter or anything else electrical.

Thanks,
John

as long as you jumped directly to the starter and not the battery, you should be fine. the starter button should have isolated the electrical system for the starter, so you should be ok. the starter doesnt really care if its pos or neg ground.

You are lucky the 6v batt didnt explode. Next time you want to jump with 12 disconnect the 6v. I usually get 6-7yrs from the 6v batts.

You should have the old battery tested. If it has a dead cell or won't accept a charge replace it. Reinstall the new battery and see if the engine will start. If it starts take a volt meter and check the charging voltage at the battery. You should have charging voltage in the 7.2 to 7.5 range. Make sure you clean all battery connections until they're shiny. Clean the area where your battery is grounded too. Hal
