Hi. I"ve been given a b-275 which has not been used for 5 years. Before I replace all the electrics (they"ve been eaten by something) I want to find out if the engine will turn. Can anyone tell me how to crank it by hand please?

Hi Gerard, put PTO in gear and use a large pipe wrench on PTO shaft. Turn PTO clockwise. Be careful not to damage the splines on the PTO shaft.

You may be able to put in a high gear and rock it and see if the fan moves. You could hook up a battery with new battery cables and just bump the starter to see if the fan moves. Hal

Hal. Thanks for that. Can I just connect a battery direct to the starter motor? There's no wiring on the tractor to speak of. I can't rock it because three of the four tyres are full of holes. You can see why I want to check the engine will turn before I start spending too much money.

You can connect the battery cable to the starter solenoid if it has one like this. You may need to
install another battery cable from solenoid to the starter. Make sure that tractor is out of gear. Then take a piece of insulated wire and just touch where your battery cable is connected to the solenoid and to the small terminal on the solenoid with an S. You will need to ground the battery on the tractor's frame. Make sure all rust and paint is removed for a good ground. Hal
