I was just talking to a buddy of mine. He has a line on a 706 diesel, says it doesn't look too bad, but if you put antifreeze in the radiator it goes straight to the crankcase. The owner wants $500 for it.

As I recall, there were two different diesel engines in the 706's, one German and one IH. Are they both dry sleeve? Any ideas, outside of a busted block? I told my buddy if he decides to pass, I might be interested, which may or may not be too smart.

Thanks for the response. Without going into it any farther, I'd venture a guess it's a German diesel with a sleeve seal leaking. I knew the IH engine would be dry sleeve, but wasn't sure about the German. I'll see what happens.

German wet sleeve, American dry sleeve. If its the german the sleeve orings like to leak. Could also be head gasket, cracked head/block or numerous other things causing the leak in either engine. $500 is less than scrap price so you could part it and make a good bit.
