I bought an instrument panel off of eBay for my 1947 Farmall H. The instrument panel came with the amp meter and outside access fuse holder; however, it also came with an ignition switch that has five posts marked with the letters s, i, f, and b. can anyone tell me what the letters stand for and how to properly wire the instrument panel.
thank you

Someone has changed it. If you want the tracttor to be original you will need to start with a different cover as original doesent have a fuse nor a sw for the ignition. The fuse is internal on the four position lite sw. Your H came with a magneto and a kill sw down on the arm that holds the hy control lever. You should get an ownerws manual as it will show wiring dia if you want to keep it original.

It is an ignition switch because it came with a key. It was used to replace the old push-pull switch. do you have anyidea on how to wire it?

Sounds like someone put a generic key switch into the ammmeter box. Typically these switches have 4 terminals labelled B, I, A and S.

B = Battery. Connect to the generator side of the ammeter.

I = Ignition. Connect to the coil.

A = Accessory. On a car/truck it feeds the dash gages, radio, heater and other accessory loads. (It's typically not used on a tractor)

S = Starter. Connect to the starter solenoid coil terminal

Are you sure it"s an ignition switch? It may be a light switch. Also you said it has five posts, but you only included 4 letters. What is on the fifth post?

As a totally guessing game, the "s" might be source, the "i" might be ignition, the "f" and "b" might be for front and back lights. But that"s a pretty far fetched guess!!
