Why I'm splitting the Super H

In the previous "possum post", I didn't explain why I am taking the Super H so far down. In the center casting, the pump housing area, where the casting bolts to the front of the Trans/rear end, one of the bolts was twisted or broken off inside the housing. Also all the seals were bad where they come out of the transmission. Then, the clutch, it was questionable and I could see one of the 6 bolts was twisted off. With so much wrong in there, and the gas tank and pump and everyting else was off anyway, I thought I might as well go for it.

I have an original H owners manual, and the IT manuals, I still find myself lacking as the IT manuals are pretty vague. What would be the next best manual/book if I could only buy one? I intend to go all through the tractor and bring it back to good, dependable condition. Not going over the top though.

Thanks, Gene

Some time in the life of the SH someone must have put a soft bolt in, the bottom 4 are 5/8 and the top ones are 3/4.I have seen pullers break the casting but never the bolts. The seals are an easy fix once you take the U joint apart.I don't have a SH service manual and agree with you about the IT manual.A parts book is about as good as anything most people have access to.Did I read a few months ago that you had a kidney transplant,My first one was in 92 the second in 97. Doing well with this one.If you run into problems just post again.

Thanks for the reply, Yes I had a transplant going on 17 years ago. I was 36 or 37 at the time. I came down with "Nephrotic syndrome" in 1984, was treated for a couple of years and sort of went into remission, then they just decided to fail in the summer of 1990. Doing pretty good ever since, just problems with medicine side effect. One of the drugs has just about eat up all the cartilige in my hands, wrists, ankles and feet.

What caused yours? Dr. said mine was most likely a strep infection, but could have been contact with heavy metals like mercury or lead (Welding?)

What kind of welding puts you in danger from mercury and lead? I have been welding all my life, mostly mild steel.

Someone mentioned on a post here a while back that welding fumes/smoke gives off mercury. I had never heard of it either. Maybe if you were using Nickle rods?

It may have been a post on tractor talk or one of the other forums.

There is no Super H service manual, the H one will do. I believe Binder Books has a clutch manual and some others -- www.binderbooks.com
