I would pull that pump and reprime it again and reinstall it, put the pan on with a few bolts and fill the crankcase with oil. Then crank the engine again and see you have oil pressure. I would install a new calibrated gauge that's graduated in psi. You may have lost the prime by the time you started the engine. Hal

Are you using an actual guage, or are you going by the idiot light in the dash? Keep in mind that on an 06 series tractor, the idiot light is for both engine oil pressure and transmission pressure. If you're holding the clutch pedal down, the MCV dump valve will be open to dump oil pressure out of the TA clutch, causing trans pressure to drop and the light to come on. This is normal. Could also be a MCV problem. Eliminate this possibility by disconnecting the trans pressure sender. It is located on the rear side of the MCV, which is located on the left side of the clutch housing. Now, if you're using an actual gauge and you have no pressure, try Jim's method of priming the oil galley.

Did you have the oil filter base off? There is two different base's and they take different gaskets. The relief valve is in the early base (cast iron), the relief valve is in the block behind the filter base on the late style (aluminum).

so I checked the relief valve and everything is working there so do you have to pour oil in the base of the oil filter to prime it? Thanks

Nope I haven't got any pressure yet I used jim's method of priming the oil galleys and now I have oil in the filter, but I still don't have any pressure so does the problem have to be in the oil pump? Thanks Shawn

Do you have a pressure gauge on the oil gallery?
I would pull the oil pump and blow compressed air thru that hole in the block where the oil pump mounts. You need open any plugs so the sludge or dirt can escape when you use air pressure. You will need a helper. Are you sure you have oil level to the full level? It bothers me about that rebuilt pump. You should have instant pressure since you primed the pump. If you can't find the problem I think I would call steelwheelranch and see if they have a good used pump. 785-548-7437

Hal
PS: Did you have pressure before the rebuild?

Hal- Thanks i'll try that tomorrow I checked and my oil level is still right at the full line I bought the tractor with a stuck motor so i'm not sure if it had oil pressure when it was parked. Shawn

What you need to find is a preluber. It has a tank you put oil in and it uses air to push it into the main oil galley. You can also pull the oil pan and find out where the oil is going. The NAPA store here has on to use on there rebuilt engines.

Where is the pressure relief valve located on the pump? Thanks

I wonder if the pressure relief valve on the pump is letting the oil bypass. Hal

I have used this multiple times and it always works!
Use a plunger type oil can and a piece of rubber hose to make a mini adapter. Pull the oil pressure sending connection out of the block, and insert the hose end (forcing the rubber into the threads) put engine oil in the can and pump it full. It might take several cans. When full, it will feel different and require more pressure to pump. Go for it. JimN

Hi,
I didn't dip the block I rebuilt the motor in the frame. The oil filter is dry,but I checked and the oil pump is spinning how do I get to the passages to blow them out? Thanks Shawn

You may need to remove the oil filter and the oil pump and blow air thru the hole in the engine where the pump mounts and see if that is open. You want to remove the oil pressure line to the gauge too and see if it's open. Was there much sludge in the engine when you tore it down? Hal

Did you have this engine block dipped and all oil passages cleaned? I would check that oil pump to make sure the key hasn't sheared. If you sat that pump in a clean container of engine oil and twisted that drive gear until oil was being discharged it should be primed. You may need to blow out those oil passages with air. I wouldn't run that engine until you get pressure. Do you think the filter is full? If that pump was rebuilt that's the place where I would start. With a primed pump you should have almot instant oil pressure. If you can find a pressure vessel similar to the Wagner brake bleeder ball you can
fill that complete oil gallery with engine oil until your tractor's oil pressure gauge shows oil pressure. Then make a start and let the engine idle and see if there's oil pressure on your gauge. Hal
