I have a 1940 H and need to replace the gen belt an fan belt. The lock nut is free but the stud is froze in the pulley. I have sprayed BP Blaster on it for days, still nothing moves. Any ideas? I have read past post nothing seems to work.

The best factor is that you have not twisted it off. Heating it with a Mapp gas or propane torch (just the screw, not the casting) will heat shock the stud into submission. it will take as many as 5 or six heatings and coolings to get it to pay attention to your efforts. Tapping on it, down the axis of it, not sideways) when it is as hot as it can get with the small torch, will also get it thinking about cooperating. When it comes out, use silver moly anti-seize on it to make sure it stays operational. JimN

Now to get the pulley to move in reply to Janicholson, 10-28-2007 08:20:13
I went through the frozen lock stud routine on my M. Got it loose with heat and vibration. However, I haven't been able to get the adjusting side of the pulley to turn. I've hit it as hard as I dare with a drift, but I'm afraid of breaking the casting. And I've soaked it with penetrating oil a couple of times. It isn't critical now, turns the water pump and alternator okay, but the belts do slip when things get wet with melted snow. Got a good trick for the pulley? I need it!

I sprayed mine with BP Blaster sprayed inside adjustment slots for set screw and turned and spayed it couple of times every day for 2 days then used brass pin with hammer to loosen going counter clockwise than clockwise. Brass didn't seem to hurt it. Didn't even break the repair someone made were they broke it years ago. Put anti seize on both parts when I put back together.
