I'm working to get my 50 Cub with J4 magneto to run right. My manuals and what I see on the forum don't always agree. Please advise proper setting for mag points. My manual says .020, forum posts say .013". Valve clearance cold; my manual says .015 and forum posts say ,013". For magneto ignition which dimensions are corrrector best? My valves I've set at .015. What advantage is there to setting at .013" and why is the difference of .002 significant? Also, is there a way to check RPM on a mag system with a dwell/tach/volt meter?

The J4 and H4 mag point setting is .013". They use.020" on distributors. Your tractor should run ok with the valve setting at .015" until you have it running. They recommend .013" cold. You don't want them too loose. Hal
