I have an IH 364 and when she sits a couple of weeks - she starts and then dies. When that happens.....I know I need to bleed the injection system - AGAIN !!! Can anyone tell me what to look for or any possible fixes for this problem. I checked on the garage floor for leaks but I only seen a drop or two of diesel fuel.

Thanks

I did see a little dampness around the fitting leading to the the lift pump. Also there is a deop of fuel on the line leading from the tank to the pump. I am going to install new capper gaskets on the lines and try it.

John: Unless you find loose connections or cracked lines, suction side of pump, I'd look for cracked filter base. I had 3 of these on 8 diesels over 35 years. I can tell you the cracks were very hard to find, in fact it was only when I bought a new base, I was absolutely sure of the problem. They were not IH, one was Deere the old square glass filter, 2nd was 6.2 Chevy and the 3rd was Perkins in a combine. None of them leaked fuel.

Check for air leaks or poor connections on the inlet side of the fuel system from tank to injection pump including filters, air won't usually go in the high pressure side.

Be sure to check for the possibility that the injection pump drive shaft seal is getting worn, leaking fuel into the engine and allowing air into the injection pump.

John, check all lines and fittings very carefully..all leaks don't necessarily leak outward..air can leak in...we had a problem with one of our tractors not starting easily, finally saw a few drops of diesel, I replaced the line and the tractor starts and runs great just like it used to..it had been sucking air.
