I am trying to remove the injector pump on my IH 684. I have all the bolts removed except one of two that attaches it to the chasis, the one in back between the pump and the engine I cannot get a wrench on it. I can feel the nut on it but there is no room to get a socket or end wrench in there. I have limited tools. Even if I could get a wrench on it there would not be any room to move it. The body of the pump prevents an extension for a socket. Any suggustions?

Hi Jerry, I just use a box end wrench, can only turn a fraction at a time. Just wait until you try to put the washers and nut back on.

Thru the timing cover hole, DO NOT LOOSEN or REMOVE the 3 cap screws on the timing gear adjustment. Only remove the large nut on the injection pump drive shaft.
Be sure to accurately mark the location of the injection pump to the mounting plate so when you reinstall it the timing will be correct. Use an awl or something to put a scratch line on both.

When you reinstall the injection pump and the tractor will not start after bleeding & priming then the pump could be 180 degrees out of time so you will have to remove the injection pump again turn the shaft 1 rotation and reinstall. The injection pump only turns at 1/2 the speed of the engine so can be 180 degrees out of time when reinstalled.

Good Luck
JimB
