H4 Magneto question

Hi guys,
I bought a H4 Magneto for my 1943 Farmall H a while back. The grease that goes in the box with the two small gears was old, so I'm going to put in new grease. My question is: How do you time those small gears? On the larger gear, there are two marks on it with a R and a L, and on the small gear, the is a flat spot on one of the teeth. Does the flat gear tooth have to go between the two marks with the R and the L? I hope you can understand this.

Thanks,
Andy Motteberg.

Line up the mark on the small gear with the R for right hand drive on your H. The L is for the gas start diesels.

Those marks are close enough that the spark will jump that far from the rotor to the cap. Maybe Magman can reply to this??
