What is different about a "Western Special" 656?

Just to add to the confusion.... Many Row-Crop 656's were ordered with pressed steel wheels, and a few were also ordered with no 3pt/fast hitch. I've only seen one picture of a 656 that was claimed to be a Western Special. The thing that jumped out at me on that one was that it was an early model with the 706-style sheetmetal. The Row-crops with that style tin have "FARMALL" emblems on the sides of the hood, this one had "INTERNATIONAL" emblems. Otherwise it looked like a row-crop.

Stamped rear wheels with 18.4 X 38 tires. Wide front end, no powered hitch; just a standard drawbar and a heck of a lot of dealer hype.

Otherwise, they are just a plain old everyday row crop tractor. :>)

Must be what our 544 was then - stamped rear 16.9x34 instead of cast wheels, and no 3-point. But still a row-crop adjustable tread...

Allan, that sounds like a perfect description of our 656- has the stamped wheels, no 3 point, wide front. I wasn't old enough when we bought it to remember any "dealer hype".....possible that that's mostly what dealers in this area stocked? I'm sure grandad wouldnt have special ordered it, just bought it out of what the dealer had on hand.

Saw one in town here a month or so ago. You talk about a horse!

Perfect feed tractor because of those big rear tires overcome the slow 656 reverse. :>)
