Anyway to tighten up a steering box on a Super M? I recently bought one,its the first I've had narrow front,in road gear,it wobbles and shakes so bad it threatens to send you into the bushes. The tractor needs a restoration, but aside from this its a decent old tractor for its age.My 46 M has about the same amount of play, but has a Swartz wide front on it,and doesnt wobble in road gear.

Any thoughts?Thanks in advance.

The nut on the end of the steering shaft may be loose, which allows the worm gear to move up or down the shaft.
The teeth on the mating gear may be worn excessively. The gears on the 400, could be turned to use the teeth on the other side that are not worn. The SM may have the half gear.
The shaft has a universal joint in it that may have some slop in it. They all add up to make the whole system sloppy.

Steering as you describe usually means the Bolster is worn. I had the same thing. Very carefully block up the front end and start taking apart from top down. Again be very careful, those tractors have a way of slipping.
