Just bought my first tractor, a farmall c. It was retored, however, I am noticing that the oil pressure is consistently low. I'm assuming it could be an oil pump but wondered if there were any quick troubleshooting options before I go this direction. I don't even know where the oil pump is at this point!

Here's what your pump looks like after you pull the pan. Hal

What are you calling low oil pressure? If it will hold 10 pounds or more when hot it will be OK. If much less then that you may need something. These tractors do not hold much pressure when hot and at an idle.

I have a B that I rebuilt with a reground crank and new bearings. It holds over 30 # hot & ideling with 5w 20 oil in it. It is not an IHC gauge. Before the rebuild it would drop down to almost nothing even with heavy oil. So I know the gauge is good.

The oil pump is located on the bottom of the engine that is driven by the camshaft. You would need to drain the oil from oil pan and then remove the oil pan to gain access to the oil pump.

Before you go that route I would install a calibrated pressure gauge that"s in psi increments
to see what the pressure is. I would install 30wt oil to see if that helps. Hal

try puting a known good gauge on it first. could be just a bad pressure gauge. if the pressure still reads low, could be the bottom plate on the oil pump is worn. drop the oil pan, and the bottom of the oil pump will have 4 bolts, remove them, and the cover will come off. there is a spring that will come down too, with a metal cup on top. check the surface where the pump gears ride. if there is a groove worn in it, you can use emery cloth on a piece of flat steel or glass and sand it back smooth. i just did this on my farmall b. takes 6 sheet of emery cloth and about an hour and a half of sanding. you will need a new oil pan gasket and pump gasket too.

You answered my question. Thank you. I am so prone to thinking I need 50-60psi on oil. This tractor runs between 25 and 35psi. What i'm hearing is that i don't have to worry about that. Thank you for helping this newbie out.
