Does anyone know the original color of an International "side-hill hitch?" Was part of them I-H blue? (That's what we called them here on our side-hill farms. It's mounted to the drawbar frame and lets you move the drawbar left or right to keep the plow in alignment on the side hills. Flatland guys maybe are unfamiliar with this attachment because they didn't need one. I've heard them called "hillside hitches" and John Deere calls them "landing levers.") Anyway, does anyone know the original color? We think we can see some I-H blue on one and for the life of me, I can't remember the color, even after all the hours I used to plow with a Farmall M. Thanks...

Dave: They were all blue from the factory, and Paul should have got it right as they were all manufactured in his back yard, so to speak. All letter series side hill hitches were manufactured at IH Hamilton ON works. Couldn't resist that one Paul.

Hugh--

The more I thought about it, the more I seemed to remember that the side-hill hitch on my uncle's Farmall M was blue. Hard to believe that I can't remember after all the hours I put in on that tractor, and all the times I got on and off it, grabbing the lever and stepping up. And I remember that it was dark colored, definitely not a red or re-painted red.

Thanks....

Dave: We had three of these over the years. First one was on the W4 and those were a bit different from Farmall setup. Got a new one with H in 51, and for some reason another new on with 300. Just why dad wanted two, not sure, he only had one plow. Must have been a special deal on side hill hitches when he bought the 300. It wasn't an attachment one leaves on full time, as it almost had to be removed for pto work.

Officially they were all blue, although like most IH attachments I expect a few got painted red. The reason I belive these were all made at Hamilton ON, they show up in manual of No.8 Tractor Plow made at Hamilton, but not in the manual of Little Genius No. 8 made in Canton IL. Near as I can tell there was a separate parts manual for side hill hitches sold in the US.

Your also right, most of those flat landers of the mid west and the wheat belt, both Canada and the US, haven't got any idea what we're talking about.

Hugh, I thought they were blue as mine are and look original, but I have been wrong before and did not know for sure. I did think you or someone would be able to tell us for sure. You still running that dozer?

Here's the sidehill hitch on my W6. It shows no sign of being blue.

Dave, I know exactlt what your talking about. I have two of them and both are showing blue on them. Not sure if it is original paint or not, but it looks to be.
