Whats the worst you ever herd? I mean stuppidest. What have people tried to pass off.

I saw a picture once of an super MVDTA. It sold for $29000

I have also seen the nigerian scam, where someone emails you saying for example he has 30 million here and will write you a 30million check but you have to send 25million to this place..... and you keep the change..... and people fall for that.

Something that is stupid (I think) is $140,000 for a Super H-TA. IH did not make that model.

Lanse: That's not fraud, just someone with money out buying a tractor, who's not capable of buying a tractor. Fools and their money will part company, just nothing you, I or anyone else can do about it.

Likely vegetable, some controversy on this. First appeared as an HV or MV, has chain driven rear drop axles, high clearance wide front. Not to be confused with a cotton picker tractor, which is also high clearance.

The Nigerian scam is older than this forum. As far as the $29000 SMDVTA, that seems to be the going price, actually it is a little low -- the people selling and buying know what it is, and if they want to exchange that kind of money, it's their business -- It's not a scam, it's also not for me.

Have seen one actual Original, New Condition tractor at Wenger's, that they apparently wanted a hefty price for at one time. Although when I was there a few weeks ago to buy some parts, one of the salesmen told me it was NOT for sale?

Found this today while searching the internet. Note the date of the ad and the "This is for real" part:

For Sale: (4/30/98) Brand new Ferguson 35, 1956 (First year), gray & green in color (Only year of that color, zero). 7 tenths of an hour, has factory shipping tag still attached to tractor. All paperwork included. Stored inside heated building since new. This is for real, $25,000.00. Lloyd Wenger, 831 Hilltop Road, Myerstown PA 17067. Phone (717) 866-7147 eves, Fax (717) 866-4300 or E-Mail me at: lwenger@prolog.net

The Ferguson, if it is indeed as advertised is/was worth the money. Only disadvantage compared to modern tractors of the same size is that the PTO and hydraulics are not live, at least I think they aren't. The HV/MV, Super series of same and the SMDVTA's are out of my price range, but it's an agreement between the buyer and seller, so I certainly have no objection. The Wenger's tractor can only go up in value if they maintain it. At least they are legitimate low production tractors.

The 35 was available with live hydraulics and a two stage clutch with live power take off.

Suits me. My knowledge of Ferguson stops with the 20/30, as they were common in S Texas in the 50's, but I have never driven one, a Ford 8N is as close as I got, which when compared to IH is very forgettable.

I have a 35 Deluxe with the hi and low range, live power and hydraulics. Some were even diesel. My MIL has a TO-30 and it is an all together different beast. Lift only works with clutch out and tranny driven PTO, one brake pedal on each side. The 35 was a great improvement over the 30.

Figure a '56 Fergie would've had live hydraulics, doubt it's live PTO though, but not sure?

It is as-advertised. Only a few minor scuffs on the tin and some small bits of surface rust on all 4 wheels. It is complete with drawbar and stays, paperwork and also IIRC, a laminated copy of an old newspaper article concerning the tractor's history.

I chuckled last Sat. at a small tractor show with probably about 40 to 50 tractors. Some of the tractors were in fairly good original condition, most were in restored condition. A few were in near perfect restored condition, including one beautifully-done 450.

While a few of them had For Sale signs, it struck me that more had NOT FOR SALE signs on 'em.

Reminded me of the time I complimented a guy at the old Granger's Picnic tractor show, about how his restored M Farmall hadn't looked that good since it left the factory. He got a tad upset, said it hadn't looked that good WHEN it had left the factory. ;o)
