I don't have a good answer for you, but check out www oldihc org.... Look for "Truck Talk" and then the "L-R-S Series" forum...Check out the archives and if you don't find something there, ask away. Good folks and very helpful.

Nathaniel

I think IH used at least three different ignition systems on their trucks. Delco, Prestolite, and an IH built system. If yours is lucky enough to have the Delco, you should be able to find something that will work.

TEXASJ,
I hate to disagree with Allen In NE because he really knows his stuff but I'm 99.99% sure that the engine you have in your R-185 is very different from any Jeep engine. It's either a 373, 406, 450, and maybe one other even bigger gas engine. They're Super Red Diamond engines, great big heavy low speed truck engines that will break you up trying to keep the gas tank full. You might have a hard time finding a HEI ignition for it but as long as the ignition system is in good shape, changing points and a condenser once in awhile should keep it going.

Mark, you are right about that gas consumption. I have an old Red Diamond hooked to a irrigation pump. Pulling a 6 inch pump with all 5 inch field pipe and two big guns it would burn 8 or 9 gallon an hour. Had straight headers on it, and it was the loudest thing I ever heard run. Let an old buddy borrow it and that was the last she ran. When I had to go get about 8 months later it had the number 4 rod sticking through the block. I nearly quit letting anyone borrow anything over that deal.

I'll bet you could pull one out of an old 80s jeep. Should be just about the same motor.

Any AMC/Jeep. As long as it is a 6 pop.
