On my 450 the fast hitch cylinder is connected to the outside lever which is for the inside valve. Is there a way to change it from double acting to single acting without taking off all of the sheet metal?

Depends on which set up you have. Some of them have the switch(for lack of better term) sticking out the top of the sheet metal so it can be reached. If so you can see it. If not you will likely have to remove one hood panel. If you just want the hitch to float remove the pin behind the bottom of hydraulic cylinder. This will allow free floating of the hitch.

The pin is the answer as just switching to one way on the cylinder is for use with only one hose rigged to a cylinder. If you aren't sure about the pin send me an email and I will send you a picture of it. I already have the pic in the computer as I sent it to another guy while back.
