OK, While turning over I held my hand over the intake, when I stopped turning over and removed my hand, quite a bit of fuel started to come out so I tried turning over right then. Sucked that fuel up and popped. Kept popping as long as I held starter, but doesn't run. But those are the fisrt signs of life.

Help any with diagnoses?

Thanks,

Brian

CONGRADULATIONS!!!!! ! I am wanting to get me an H but am not sure if I'm ready for a total engine rebuild. I am 14 and work on garden tractors, and if you were me, would you go ahead and get one and bite the bullet or try to get one without a stuck engine? I want a not-stuck one, but I'll take what I can afford, and a ***new*** (rebuilt) engine would be nice-If I do it right, doing it again could be my grandkids problem!

You don't have to get a stuck one, or one that needs much engine work at all. There are quite a few listed in photo ads here that supposedlt run pretty good for right around $1000, a few for less. If you 14 someone might cut you some slack to see a kid doing something positive with your time.I think a stuck one you should be able to get for next to nothing, a couple hundred bucks.

But if I were you, I'd get a decent running one. And by the time you save 8 or $900, it would be easy to save a few hundred more and get a really decent one. You can get a really nice one for well under $2,000.

Git to it.

Brian

I think you need to check to see if your distributor is in time again. Bring No1 piston to TDC on the compression stroke. Your notch on the damper pulley should be aligned with the pointer and both valves on No1 cylinder should be closed. Then look at the rotor to where its pointing. Your plug wires need to be in this firing order on the cap too. Hal
2-1
4-3

PS: You can have fire at all the plugs even if the distributor is timed wrong. It's just not firing in the correct order.

Hey Rusty, She's running!!!! This is the greatest day of my life! lol Not perfect yet, but running. I went back to the archives and searched on carb settings, just to make sure. Turns out I had the high speed adjust all the way in, starving apparently. Let her out and started right up. I didn't think that would affect starting that much, but it did. Feel like I'm learning book loads everyday.

Sure do appreciate your interest and assistance. Definately could not have done this without this site, you and all the guys.

Can't wait to get her out to that farm for some baling!

Thanks again,

Brian

High speed setting matters since that is the start position of the throttle (well all I ever seen was, could be a oddball somewhere lol).

Take care of the carb, it can make your machine run great or be misserable not just starting but overheating, ruff restarts when hot, low power, poping, smoking oh the list goes on for out of whack carb settings.

One thing Ill warn ya about. Turn the gas off whenever she sits long period of time. Just onc eis all it takes to overflow carb, end up in crankcase thining the oil then seized block. Ya its happened to me. Not good feeling seeing a $900 engine sieze cause the float in carb stuck (unknown to me at time of course).

Funny. Getting up this morning I thought there was no way she'd be running today. Tinker, tinker, tinker, Boom! Surprised me a lot.

Thanks George.

Yep, like I said, those carb adjustments and settings are not just a suggestion. They are critical. CONGRATULATIONS on getting the 'ol gal to run.

Dude, you need to deliver pizzas at night or something, whatever it takes to get yours. And just like I told ya, the longer it takes the better it feels when you get there. Just do it! :)

Pics to come.
