OK heres how it is. The mag was installed on the tractor properly at TDC. I washed the points off with alcohol. The problem is, there is no spark from the coil wire to the distrbutor. Nary a drop. I would like to try a new coil. I have the magneto repair manual . I am looking for a place to purchase a high output coil for an H-4 Farnall magneto. Tom, please email that address and phone #. YT lists a J-4 coil but no no H-4 coil. Would they be the same? Thanks for all the help from all of you. It is greatly appreciated

Check the wiring where you connected the condenser and coil wire from the mag on your new points to make sure they're not grounding against the the mag. I would disconnect the mag grounding wire at the mag until you find the problem. If the tractor ran before I wouldn't buy a coil. You can always reinstall the old points and condenser to see there's fire. Look
at the rotor to where its pointing. Hal

I just had the same problem with the mag on my dads old C. After much frustraition it turned out the wire that goes from the condensor to the points had a bad place in it. It was not easy to find cause that wire runs down through a small hole and exits down by the points. The place that was bad was hidden. Just a thought. Replacing that wire brought the old C back to life.

Henry, I left a not just a minute ago under uyour post from last night.

I ahd the experience of losing all spark when I changed out points an condensor. I agree with others, that coil isn't going to die that fast, and is probably fine.

Before youo chasing down and paying for a new coil, check to make sure your new poiunts are closing properly.

I set the gap on mine with the mag on the tractor, and never turned the engine before I closed it up to see that they were closing. And that was the problem. The arm was binding on the hinge post, the one that I cleaned and then greased. But it was the breaker arm sticking open. A little reaming, resetting of the gap, and retiming of the spark, and that might be all you neeed.

The J-4 coil is not the same as the H-4. YT should have both. Try contacting them. If they don't have the H-4 coil, contact me.
