I just purchased a 240U that was painted yellow, apparently later in life because there is red paint underneath. I just noticed that under the yellow paint the rear wheel rims are plated. Don't look galvanized but they are a silver color plated, and there doesn't appear to be any rust. I have never seen this before. Would you clean them up and leave the plated surface exposed, or sandblast them and prime and paint them silver?

When I bought my 240 U the front and rear wheels were very rusty. I used flap discs and twisted wire brushes on a 4-1/2" side grinder and a cone wire brush in a drill motor to clean them up. I noticed the silvery color also but it wasn't apparent on the rear centers or the front ones. I painted them white as that looks to be the color in the operators manual. They may have had the centers white with rims a silver color but I don't think it was galvanized. Others may know for sure? David.

The "plated surface" sounds like the original coating from the factory.
