I have a relative working on my 1939 Farmall F14 tractor trying to get it in running order. It was overhauled about 10 yrs ago and had run about once each year since then.

He tells me that the fuel pump seems to be pumping at the pump, but no fuel is getting up to the carb. I understand the diaphragm appears to be good. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks,
Ron

Check to see if the fuel lines are plugged. Make sure that the carb is clean too. If this does not work, you may need a new fuel pump kit. They are not cheap though.

Andy.

it only takes a pinhole in the diaphram, check the oil and see if its gas diluted, if so then the diaphram is bad, if not then the bakelite discs or the springs are bad.

On my F-12 I had a similar probelm of no fuel to the carb. It ended up that the diaphram was good, but that the "out" valve on the fuel pump was not sealing anymore. So the fuel would go up the line part way than leak back into the fuel pump. So if the line is not plugged it may also be those two spring valves in the pump.

There may be a tiny bit of rust from the line stuck on a check ball in the pump or the needle valve in the carb might be stuck closed with gum. If that is the case undo the line going into carb and spray carb cleaner in the hole. light taps on the side of the carb should then free it. To check the fuel flow, take out all the spark plugs (make sure mag is turned off), undo the line at the carb and crank it over fast. Gas should come out the line.
