A while back I asked for folks to help identify my corn planter in the Implement Alley area. A few good conclusions of what it isn't came from there.

I've been searching all over the net for any planter resources and thus far pretty limited. What I have found is that it is very similar to the McCormick #8 horse drawn hill drop planter as well as the 202, 203, 205 and 100ish series planters (hill drop, checkrow and drill).

I'd like to solidly identify this planter so that I can get the correct operators manual. I reckon I don't like not understanding exactly how changing settings will effect the planter and I would like to be able to properly set it up.

I have a few photos of it and a few like it that I've found around the web. Please be aware that the fiberglass fertilizer boxes are not original and are just sitting in the photos and in the future I'll retorfit them to work with the planter as the originals are junk...

This planter by the way is a drill version...

If anyone can help get me steered down the right path I'd be very appreciative. I do thank those that have attempted to lend a helping hand thus far.

Thanks eh

Hi, I don't know much about planters but I do
have a manual dated 9-29-44 that covers the 102,
104 and 106. Mostly it looks the same as a 102,
but with all the diff attachments etc it is hard
to tell. I would sell this 75 page setting up,
owners, and parts list. It is used and very
functional. Price $12. Chuck

Roosty, I have searched through all my junk and the net, and have not found one exactly like it. The only thing I can guess is that maybe there was a model 8 horse drawn and a model 8 tractor drawn planter. This is only a guess and not a very educated one at that. Good luck with your search.

Thanks for the help looking.

here is an online photo I found above of the same planter I have...

Gandering at the F20 sales brochure that you can find online There are the 100 series planters and if you look at the FA112 it is basically what appears to be 2 #8's tied together to make a 4 row checkrow.

If you look at the 202, 203, 205 series planters they look very similar to a #8, almost identical to be exact, I'll let you know when i receive the operators manual for it.

One thing I have noticed is that prior to about the mid 40's any planters that were conceived prior are difficult to find information on. CNH does not list them in the parts area of their website and online resources are difficult to find.

If anyone has a #8 or similar manual they'd be willing to scan or photograph pages of for me I'd appreciate it.

Heck if anyone has fertilizer attachments that are still usable I'd be interested in those too... Even if i have to make my own tins on top fo the bases.

Thanks for the help eh

Roosty, the fertilize attachments should be no problem. Nearly all these old planters use the same style unit. Even parts from IH side dressers will work. Call Brad Marshall at 1-888-824-0544. He has lots of fertilizer parts and units. He may have info on your planter,as he still has the old books and micro-fiche for most any IH tractor or implement. I will talk to him today or tomorrow and will ask if he can find any info on this.
