Hi all.

I am trying to replace a badly worn steering support bushing in my SC so it will hold grease and not flop. This part is referred to as Bushing, steering shaft rear bearing, in the parts manual. Part number 23858D and is listed as retired.

Do any of you know of a source for this bushing? Would you think a bearing house could match it up if there is not an OEM source for this bushing?

Thanks,

Your best bet is probably to go to a salvage yard and find the entire cast piece with the bushing in it. The cast piece is either 351313 R92 or 360363 R11. This bushing is likely retired because it's one of the things that is rarely replaced. I don't recall seeing any of these that were worn enough to worry much about. Looking at the parts info, it appears to me that later tractors with the 360363 R11 bearing did not have the bushing.

As the shaft is probably worn also i would take a alum pop can and make a shim. You are talking the support that bolts by the bell housing correct?

Gene,

No, this is the support that bolts to the bar that holds all the controls, like touch control levers, lights, throttle, choke, etc. It is about three inches below the steering wheel, is cast, has a zert for grease and a bushing at the upper end where the steering rod rides in. The bushing is about three inches long, split down the middle for ease of installation and has a hole drilled for the grease to enter the space between the steering rod and the bushing. If an original is not available, I will get some bushing stock and turn it to correct ID and OD. I just wanted to put my hands on an original to save some machine work.

Try Justin Weber at www.weberstractorworks.com. He deals in NOS. Usually for things like that I don't even look around but take them to a machine shop and have them bushed. If you can do that yourself, so much the better.
