Just got in a 450 Gas and the sheetmetal is very rough and the instrument panel and hydraulic controls cover has been torched beyond use. Are the 400 and 450 tractors the same on all the sheetmetal and does anyone near the northwest have sheetmetal for this ugly duck? I know the gas and diesel are different but hoping that two models to search for will make the hunt easier. The grill is not too bad but need all the rest if someone has parted out a straight ol girl. Migraine

If I understand correct the parts you say are torched are a little different. The piece that covers hydraulics and controls, also what lights mount to has some extra holes on a 450. The hole that valve shaft sticks through to change from single to double acting on 450 is not in most 400,some late ones have it. No hole for key switch in 400 its switch is up in insturement panel and 450 has push button up there which makes those panels a little different. If careful the holes can be can be added to a 400 cover. If 400 cover never had a tach the tach hole needs a little shapeing to use one.

I put a IH branded tach in my 400 (serial 519) by knocking out the "knockout plug", similar to an electrical box. The tach came with the little wedge piece that gives it the right angle for easy viewing.

After removing knock out you should have enlarged hole especially at the top for correct fit, thats what I meant by shaping hole. IH used to include a template to mark area to remove with some tach attachment kits.
