After being ticked off about my new DSL, DONT GET DSL, especially yahoo ATT!!, I wrote a long thoughtful thread to warm you guys about it explaining it all, I know it's off topic, but I wanted to share my experience with my friends. Well the stupid curse filter would not let me post, I changed words 7 times and am sick of it. There was no curse words in my first thread. I hate this forum software as it is, I'm tired of not being able to edit my posts, not being able to change it after hitting the back button, I always have to copy the paste cause 9 times out of 10 it disappears. I am just sick of this forum. The content and people are awesome, but the software is utter Poo and I refuse to use it anymore. If someone wants to get ahold of me, ill leave my contact email. I'm moving to farmalclub or somewhere, altho I dont think the people are as nice. Maybe this whole DSL thing has put me in a bad mood and I'll be back, But I doubt it!!

Jay Walt,

Life is too short to spend any part of it angry at a website. Vote with your feet and move on....you'll be missed but we'd rather you keep your blood pressure down.

Speaking for myself, I like this site from top to bottom with ONE GLARING exception...why should it be so difficult to post photos. But I solved that problem....I just don't post photos frequently.

Jay, $"s 2 donuts, you will be back. Copy and paste action follows --> "I wanted to share my experience with my friends. I dont think the people are as nice." There, that worked easy! Hey, those are your words not mine, just added the " " I just did the speed test that JT suggested and came up w/ download = 445 kb/s and upload = 721 kb/s. Didn"t even hurt. I like the way this forum works w/keeping the most current post on top. Earlier today I went all the way back in time to page 14 and back to check up on a few things. Sometimes I use C/P action from word proccessing software, shuld mor ophten probabababably?? eye do"nt no?? When I think way back to the last century, when a lot of this wonderful old red iron was put on steam trains for transport to IH dealerships from the vast tractor lots at the factory - "who would da thunk," some day you could "talk tractor" round the world.

I agree with Harley,

Think you'd be a lot, lot happier over there.

A whole busload got their neck in an arch and pulled out, built a new site and they seem very happy there. It's kind of a chat-room thing. Not much tractor stuff tho.

So, if you don't like this software or this site, maybe you should consider it.

For what it is worth tho, for every one that dislikes this format, there are thousands of us that like the "no-bells, no-frills" approach.

Just My View,

Allan

If you want to find out your upload and download speed go to Link It is kind of neat thing to test your connection speeds. This will tell you if it is your DSL or if it the web sites that are slow.

Several "words " will not work Even the word U R L with the spaces out trashes the post. We like you, try a different service, it seems your rant is as much there as it is with this forum's format. JimN

I"m using a local ISP and have not had any problems, like you have stated. Of course, I"m on a dial up service and the time is not that slow. Have a Happy Day.....

Well, you posted this time. This software is definitely not the best in the world, but not as bad as you say. I don't like the no editing after final submission either, but have not had problems with the back button deleting the post -- lately --. It has happened. The same problems don't happen to everyone all the time, seems to be a problem in some of the gerbil powered servers that route it to Kim. I imagine with your DSL, your post takes a different route than it did with dailup, thus canceling the benefit of higher speed. I have had that problem with my current wireless setup, it is still faster than dialup, but not as fast as advertised. Also, I believe in local ISP's if there is one in your area. It is always best to have someone walk me through some problem, rather than have to go through 27 voice mail steps before you finally get to speak to live person that is not in India or somewhere.

Why not add your support to my petition for a software change?

(As you can see, by the lack of replies, it could use all the support it can get!)

Yup, soon as I posted the above -- the forum posted it twice. I did NOT hit the send button twice, or double click it -- oh well.

I think the problem with double posts is that you hit your "back" button after posting your reply. On this particular software, that will repost the message.

It doesn't usually do that to me unless I accidentally hit submit again, although it has happened. Lately after the message posts instead of the message and the "return to forum" coming up I have been getting the "page cannot be displayed" thing. At that point I refresh the page and it goes back to the forum without reposting. This time it asked me to "resend the info", and without thinking (not at all unusual for me) I did what it said, thus the double post. That is the 1st time I have seen that one on this site, although that is a common Windows problem in other sites, first time it has happened to me on any forum though. In 7 years or so I have seen "almost" everything go wrong with this site, my fault or not.

DSL is not the problem. I have two computers I use to log in with-one has windows 98SE and it will not refresh and gets hung up alot, the other has XP and does much better. I have noticed that the forum is slow to respond and on occasion it times out-if it does then I lose whatever I just typed. The back button works different with 98 and sometimes jumps back to the forum instead of the post entry page where you can edit the post. I think these are problems with the operating systems and made worse by slow reaction time from YT's software.

DSL is MY problem. I sdownloaded at 300k/sec before i got dsl. I changd NOTHING but the modem, nothing on the computer. I ran a DEDICATED new phone line from the phone box DIRECTLY the modem to prevent any interference. I RAN shielded twisted pair cable and properly grounded it at ONE end to prevent any ground loops or noise. And I get this crap speed...
I have tried 4 dif benchmark sites, with all the same results.

I have DSL from Cincinnati Bell, and when I had a problem they checked the lines, found a problem and fixed it. It was outside the house so there was no charge. I am very happy with Zoomtown.

Hi Jay , Not an expert here by any means but concerning the ground you put on the wire to the computer . If you grounded it to something that has another circuit grounded to it you might be getting backfeed from that ground . I've been told that all it has to be is in the vicinity of another ground for this to happen . It could be nothing more than just hearsay or maybe something to ask an electrician about . Good luck and I have faith you'll calm down and hang out here ! ...Randy
