Things vary from dealer to dealer but I have found Motion Industries to be much cheaper than IH and they handle name brand (SKF, Timken etc. bearings). The price you pay depends on local counter person as they have more than one price sheet. Motion Industries is national and Canadian chain that mostly supplies industrial customers and some locations may not want to be bothered with individual walk in customers. They have very good web site with prices on at least some bearings.

I don't know what IH dealers you guys are going to but I sure haven't found them to be the cheapest in most cases. There are exceptions, depending on the application. For instance, I bought the trans. input shaft pilot bearing for my '54 SH from the dealer for half of what my bearing supply house could sell it to me for but almost all of the rest of the bearings in the Farmalls are standard metric sizes which I can get much cheaper at McMaster Carr or locally here in the Milwaukee area. We have a reatil store called Bearings, Inc. that can get me almost anything I need. Same goes for oil seals.

When you find your source would you do me a favor - ask about muffler bearings as my "67 F100 Ranger is sounding loud. Also, if you don"t mind, inquire about post holes. Seems they are in short supply w/this soft ground here in SW Wisc. As long as we have no snow, I wish the ground was drier "sos" I could do some diggin" round here" Where "bouts you at is the Badger State and do you have any snow? Enjoy your project.

I am located in the city of Green Bay and have my tractor at a friends farm about 45 miles northwest of here. Is snow that cold white stuff? I have not seen very much of that all season yet. Actually I think the grass in my yard is starting to green up some. 33 degrees now and that is cool compared to the high 40s and low 50s that we had all week.

Good to see you back, Nebraska Cowman. Apparently you have your medical problems under control and have got the ice and snow dealt with.

Over the years, three separate times, I've checked off-brand bearings and seals in the rear end of an M. When I add the cost for every bearing and seal from the pilot bearing to the PTO, the dealer was always less expensive.....and I didn't have to measure all that stuff or write down the part numbers. The bearing supply houses charge for freight on top of the part and it's my responsibility to get the right part too. If you can't find a good parts man, I'll recommend mine in Ohio. Oh, yeah, and if the part is at the local distribution point, we get it next day. Don't fall for the will-fit stuff. It's not worth the extra money and time.

I agree with Eric. The dealers have always been cheaper than the bearing houses. That includes big operations such as Graingers and MSC. The difference is significant.

In The yelow pages looking under bearings or seals and bearings, and just take the old ones with you , so they can cross reference the number or measure them.
