Split my "53 Super M to repair clutch and found that the flywheel has several stress cracks. Since these cracks appear to have been there for a long time I am wondering how important it is to replace the flywheel? Any help on this would be appreciated.

I see these cracks all the time on automotive flywheels. Unless they are major cracks (in width), I'd say they are normal heat cracks. Have the flywheel re-surfaced and they disappear. These cracks are much more serious in a high reving engine - like a race car engine. But, for a normally driven automobile and especially a farm tractor that is never going to turn over 1900 rpms, it will never be a problem or a safety hazzard. mike

Good response! Exactly what I wanted to know as I already found out how hard it will be to find a replacement. Thanks Mike

Really? M flywheels are hard to find? You wouldn't think so.
