Im lookin at am M a guy has down the road. I just heard he didnt want it anymore, so i went to take a look. It looks pretty good restored. He said it was stuck when he got it and he go it free and running good, and painted it up. He had reselenty taken it to pull wagons full of people back and forth at some kind of event. you can see where there is oil comming out of where the spark plugs are. Thers no oil on the stack or anywhere elce. I guess pullin them wagons the oil got reall thin and was byepassing the rings. Is this a big problem or just a small one. if i bough it i might use it as anothor show tractor or a back up for puling for fun and keep it stock. just wondering if like you guys think the rings are shot bypassin that oil up in the compustion chamber or it just samll.
Thanks alot-Baxter

i would not pay much for the tractor-just the fact that there is oil up on top to come out the plugs means a 2 to 5 hundred dollar fix if tranny fluid dont work.

So i will put new plugs in it with the thread lock or what ever you said to put in it. and ill pull somethnig around the farm.

No. The plugs are loose or have bad (used) gaskets under them. Putting antisieze compound, and chasing the threads plus hard work for the tractor fixes that. There may be oil consumption, but running for a day of work will show it. JimN

That can be a good number of thing. Valve guides/seals bad, rings, or it just plain and simple needs to be worked hard. Or it could also have stuck rings and that would also cause the problem. Theres a number of thing that could be done to figure it out but if its not yours you can't very well do them. If I where looking at it I would ask if I could put some tranny fluid in the cylinders, about a 1/4 cup in each and let it sit a day to 2 and see what happens. If its from stuck ring the tranny fluid will help that but if its just plain needing rings and or a valve job then it will do nothing for it.

If it was stuck and he got it freed up and running without doing anything to the sleeves or rings, there's a good chance the sleeves are rust-pitted enough that it's pushing oil past the rings. Most likely it'll need a set of sleeves and rings and probably a valve job while you're at it to run good.

By the way, if all he did was get it running and squirt new paint on it, it doesn't really qualify as a "restored" tractor.
