Howdy, Boys:

You know how a late 1950 M, and newer, had the heavier duty timing gear and newer style front engine cover (like a Super M) so you can easily add a live hydrulic pump with all assurances it will last?

Well, when did the H get that same similar change/update? Or did it not happen until the stage one super H? Is there a way to visually recognize/identify the newer style on an H without disassembly?

Thanks. mike

Hi, When I put a live pump on my 41 H in the 68 my local parts man told me the gears had never been changed from the first H through the last 350. It has had very hard use for all these years with many thousand hours. Use a 2001 loader with hyd bucket, also a reel type rock picker along with many other jobs, works well. I drilled and rethreaded one hole and made a small clamp for the other. Good luck, Chuck

Crankcase cover 6957DBX changed to 352168R21 at serial 344864, or about mid-late 1950. There is only one listing for the gear 6664DB, The D makes it part of the old number system, the newer system uses R. However the original gear would have said either D or DA, the DB could mean a heavier duty gear, someone else will have to answer that. But,parts that had extensive changes usually used the R system. You can go to www.caseih.com and look all this up, if you don't have the manuals.

Can't remember exactly, but the change came in '51 at serial number (about) 348xxx.

From that point on, it is a straight bolt on deal

The H/Super H/300/350 all list the same number for the gear, but as I mentioned above, the gear in the early H's may have had an earlier suffix--wish someone could actually answer this, at least as regards the gear, as I might want to do this someday.

H front cover changed to same bolt pattern as pumps at engine # 344864 which in most cases is serial # of H tractor also. Cam gears started out with end in D , around 52 or 53 they went to DA then about time 300 series came out or little after they were out the gear went to DB. If a gear was replaced and sold by IH after DB came out thats what was sold to put in H on up. I don't know about heat treating or anything like that to improve gear by looking the only thing I ever noticed is later gears are thicker from hub out to gear teeth.

I sure don't know 'bout that gear. I'm just a cowboy dummy.

However, the front covers are different for sure. That top outside bolt is in a different location on the old ones vs the newer covers.
