Which Binder Manual is correct one for plow?

I want to get a manual for a L. Genius #8 3 bottom. Binder Books shows two different ones; MCD-2462 or 1006913. One is from 1929 and one is from 1951. Both have the same number of pages, 68 if I remember correctly. One says something about parts for an M and H, maybe companion parts? Just wondering if some one else has already tackled this issue.

The Little Genius saw a couple of upgrades over the years, most notable being rubber tires and hydraulic lift in the early 40s. I expect there are other lesser known upgrades. In most cases the later manual will show all upgrades from day one in 1929 to date of printing.

For example rubber tires and hydraulic lift, IH still continued to build the steel wheel and clutch lift versions until end of production.

I know I had 3 separate No.60 plows built following the Little Genius. My oldest plow was 62, followed by 65 and a 67. One could have easily got along with the 67 manual for all 3 plows. My 62 manual did not cover upgrades.

My advice is buy the manual newer than the plow.

Hugh-
Very informative post as I had about the same question. I bought a Little Genius # 8, 2x trip in excellent condition at an auction last fall. Even excellent rubber. Paid $150.00 and can't quit patting myself on the back! All it needs is paint and it's coming into the shop in a couple of weeks. Can't wait to take that baby to club plow days in the spring behind the Super H. Thanks for the info. and have a good Holiday Season.

Thanks!
This particular plow used to be on steel but was modified ages ago to use rubber.

In my last post I mentioned lesser known upgrades. Thinking about that since, I doubt if there were any upgrades other than rubber and hydraulic lift. That No. 8 was a good solid design. If it hadn't been it wouldn't have stayed in production from 1928 until 1962. I'd grab the newer manual if I were you.

I'm looking forward to getting this one in the ground to try. It looks like it hasn't been used in decades. The tire on the furrow wheel is unusual. It slopes steeply from one side to the other. I haven't seen one like that yet. It's badly weather checked but still holds air. I'm going to try it and see what happens. Fortunately the shares and landsides are in good shape and I think they'll go to work with a little cleaning.

I sincerely doubt if there is anything special about that tire, except maybe for the wear pattern.

Someone mistakenly called the tail wheel the "furrow wheel" the other day. The furrow wheel is on the right front of the plow. Which one are you talking about? If the tail wheel, the reason it's sloped is because of normal wear.

No, it's the furrow wheel. You can make out on the side where it says "Farm Special" and near that it has the word "Contour". It's not wear, it's about 2 inches higher on one side than the other.
