Big bummer for me today. Happened to notice two cracks on the engine block of my F-20. Both cracks are on the deck of the engine block. One crack is between the number one and two cylinder. The second block is between the number three and four cylinder. How much trouble am I going to be in. I did not locate any water in the oil. Now I fear I'm going to need some mahor surgery. Any advise for me?

After assembly, a tube of Alumaseal or Silver Seal would be cheap insurance.

Rp-40-9N it's not obvious in the picture but looking at the deck with the naked eye it's clearly cracked in two places.

For everyone else. I believe the sleeves are fine but those will get pulled later and checked. I do plan on using this tractor for plowing, mowing and other duties for fun. I enjoy working farm shows and would like to participate with this tractor. Would this type of activity be a problem for those two cracks?

SproutW them type of cracks you have there will not hurt you.Seen several allis-and john deere with crack like that.As long as the sleeves them self are ok.Seen my farther put alot of SUPER A-and SUPER C back together with crack between sleeve.THE head gasket covers that crack. Therefore the coolant is below that.Unless you are just going to thash the ole engine to death.I'd say put rr back??.I've seen FERGUSON block with bolts run through them.

in the pic that dont look like a crack, if youre sure its a crack, does it go into the cylinder walls? if not and theres no water in the oil and vise versa you just might be lucky. also is there sleeves or bare cylinder walls? cant tell in pic. RP

Those will be wet sleeves.

No Tools is right, I've seen plenty of cracks in those places, as long as the liners are ok and seating correctly they should not give you any trouble. Have a look at the casting, there is not a lot of material there so is a potential cracking point. The liners do all the real work, the casting there just supports them.
All the best,
Rex
