Having trouble with my #24 picker mounted on M Farmall clogging up with stalks. I think corn stalks are to brittle and breaking off in snapper rolls. I guess I should have started picking when stalks were still tough? Any help would be appreciated.

Pull the lever back to tighten rolls, it works best to pick with the lever all the back, then move the lever back and forth to unplug. It would be best if you put a 3 inbetween the 2 and the 4.Chuck

Picking when damp or tough will help but keep in mind that the 24 picker was designed when 45 BPA corn was about as good as it got. Tall good standing 200BPA corn was not even a dream yet back then. I agree with Will a 2M or 2MH is a much better picker. I have a 2MH on a Super M and will be picking a few loads in the next week or so, pictures will be posted. Good Luck.

Yeah, I noticed that my 200+ BPA corn that is about 9' tall seemed to be a little much for the picker to process even in first gear. Wish I had a much slower, much slower first gear. I also noticed with the taller corn the stalk is very narrow and small on the upper half and it seems that it is then to small in diameter for the rolls to catch and pull through and breaks off even easier when dry. Where can I find a good Picker for my M? One like the 2M or the 2MH?

I got a 234 mounted on a M right now as we speak. It works good for what I do, just pick about 8 acres a year, but its alittle underpowered at times.

Always very careful, always shut down unit before sticking hands, fingers, thumbs, and arms anywhere. Thanks for the advice, I can adjust the snapper rolls with lever, but not sure which way closes or opens rolls (lever moves forward and back). Adjustment lever is at left side of operator seat. Maybe putting the set screws in will help. Does anyone know if you can pick sweet corn with this unit if you put in the smooth wooden husking rolls? I have heard of this but I am not sure if it would work. Any help?

You will find 1/2 inch threaded holes in the stalk rolls, you can put square headed set screws in them, that helps. Also get started early in the morning, and by 5 in the afternoon you may as well quit. Good Luck, Chuck

Be very careful running that 24 picker. 3 of my friends lost their thumbs by pulling stalks from the stalk ejectors years ago. If you can pick when it's damp they will do a cleaner job. A 2M is a lot better picker.

Years ago my dad used to pick with a #24 picker. It used to bring in half the field if the corn was dry. I thought you could adjust the clearance on the rollers. Maybe you need to adjust them to give more clearance. The other problem we always had was shelling the corn, which may be accented with more clearance. Roger
