2 questions on an M

I just got a farmall m. It loses power after you use it for 30 minutes. It does not smoke. I was using a rough cut mower and it got to a point where I could not engage the mower over an area I had already cut without the tractor stalling. I let the tractor sit for a couple hours and tried again and the same thing happened. Also this tractor seems to opperate at half power compared to my other M. Any ideas what might be wrong?

Also, would the ground still be positive after being changed to 12 volt?

Thank you for your help, Bill

We need to know if it is missing, or just smoothely getting weaker. If it is smoothely weeker I believe timing and coil are less likely (more likely a fuel mixture issue, try turning out the high speed jet 1/4 turn at a time, If choking it helps for a second or two it probably is fuel related, durty carb, or delivery).
If irratic and rough, it may be distributor shaft wear, or as noted a deteriorating coil. If the coil has no ballast resistor, or is specifically for a no resistor 12v system it could be the problem. If it is so hot that you would burn your fingers when it begins to slow down I recommend a new coil, and a ballast resistor in line with it. See Bob M's fine wiring diagrams for resistor application. The electrical system could still be + ground if it is generator equipped. The 450, 350 series had + gnd. There are + ground alternators available, but are very rare. If yours is an automotive unit , it probably is neg. ground. If it is Delco, should be stamped on the alt. housing.

It would be negative ground after being converted to 12V.

2 answers spring to mind. Coil getting hot and breaking down or a fuel restriction limiting power. Either one shouldn't be hard to remedy.
