I have occasional problems with my hand grease gun. I load it by inserting the cartridge leaveing the top not tight to allow the air to release when pushing in the plunger, then I tighten the top and start pumping. It usually takes a few pumps to get primed then it will wor for awhile. Most often it will act empty after awhile or loose prime I take the top off to check and it is not empty. I know this may sound trivial but as like everything it always happens when your in a hurry or extra busy. Does anyone have a similare expierience and solution?

You can usually tell by the feel if the grease gun is empty or not. If not, loosen the top and let the air out again. Now, if they just made a coupler that was worth installing....

Probably a bad spring on the plunger if it gets kinked it will hang on itself and the gun will quit pumping just like it lost prime. Now while we are at it does anyone else but me have problems with the hose end fitting the one that goes on the zerk I have seversl a year quit holding on the zerk.

In addition to what is stated below, I find a gun with a weak plunger spring to be more likely to loose prime. Pulling out and turning the T handle to lock it into the piston, then pushing inward on it firmly can also reprime the pump.

Pull the tee handle out and twist it so it locks into the plunger. Then just bump it a couple times and it will get you going again. It’s caused by air pockets in the grease.

I've also heard that it's best to store grease cartridges on end, with the inserted end faced down. This helps eliminated those air pockets.

HOLY COW!! I thought I was the only one that had this trouble. A long time ago, we had an old lever type grease gun and it NEVER lost prime. It didn't care how you loaded the new tube of grease, just drop it in and go. We got a new pistol grip type greasegun and it is a #@(#$ to prime and has been since new! I usually keep a small screwdriver handy so I can loosen one of the screws at the top of the gun, and let a tiny bit of grease out. You have to be careful or you end up squirting out the whole new tube.... Between that, and beating ("Tapping" is not hard enough to get the air out) the gun against a tractor tire, I can usually get it to prime, and stay primed.
