H Clutch Rod Problem

Everything is new (or rebuilt), but the clutch rod is too short when the clearence between the throw-out brg. and clutch fingers is 3/16". Its actually about where it was before I started repairs. The rod only screws less than half way into the clevis. This doesn't leave much for any future adjustment. Has anyone else ran into this problem on their H? ken

On the contrary, it leaves lots of room for adjustment. As the clutch facings wear the pressure plate creeps forward and the fingers move toward the throwout bearing. the free play is lost and the clutch rod must be shortened to regain free play.

Did you adjust free play per the manual, at the pedal? That is the recommended adjustment location and is more accurate than trying to adjust the distance from the bearing to the fingers. 3/16 inch sounds like a lot of clearance to me.

Yep, I used a genuwine IH manual. 3/16" at the bearing gave me about 1 1/8" at the pedel. I'm beginning to think I should have checked the adjustment on the fingers on the pressure plate. You would have thought that a rebuilt clutch would have been set up correctly. ken
