On the advice of members of this forum, I Removed the kill wire from the side of the mag/dist.

removed the center wire, held it close to ground, but I get zero spark.

This is where it is now.

What do I do next?

(It was not sitting for years and years, only a few.)

if i was you i would send it to magman. he did one for me and did an excellent job and it isn"t really that expensive to have it done.

If all else fails, I might talk to the Mrs. about funds and do just that.

I would feel a lot better if I could get the mag working on my own. I like to learn new things and be able to fix the entire machine on my own.

As long as you have it this far down, hold a finger on the top contact on the coil, & turn the engine over. See if a spark is weak or rather strong at the coil terminal. If a weak spark is available, the points & cond are likely needing attention. If a strong spark is at the coil terminal, look for problems in the coil cover or distributor cap, or rotor or high tension wires.

Start by cleaning and gapping the points.
