Troubleshooting a 340U FastHitch

I could use some help from the hydraulics experts troubleshooting the FastHitch on my 340 Utility. It is the Tel-a-Depth type hydraulic hitch, which has the FastHitch lever beside the seat on the right side. The control valve for the hitch is up in a control valve manifold under the dash and is connected to the FastHitch lever through linkage that runs under the seat. When I move the lever up (even a little bit) and stop, the hitch continues to move all the way to the top of it’s range. When I move the lever down, the same thing happens but down to the bottom of it’s range. I can’t get the hitch to stay in one position without going all of the way up, or down.

I located a Blue Ribbon Service Manual for Hydraulics Troubleshooting (GSS-1280), but I’m stuck on the terminology. I’m not sure how to relate the troubleshooting list of problems to what I am experiencing. Could it be “Control Valve Will Not Center Itself In Neutral”? If so, it suggests a "centering spring" in the control valve might be broken.

Has anyone had this problem? Any suggestions would be welcome.

First check the linkage going back to the hitch , there is a roll pin that will shear and if that shears then the hitch will go gooffy , next if that is not the problem then remove the cover on the teladepth valve and look at the gears as sometime they strip off a couple teeth and this makes things go gooooo fffffy.

Thanks for your response. I don"t see anything disconnected in the linkage. So from what you said it may be in the valve. The only way to pull the cover off of the control valve that I can figure is to remove the entire manifold(the valves are under the dash, and the covers are in the back) . Is there any other way?
