Anybody have an idea where I can find a pitman for a Deering New Ideal reaper. Parts book shows these numbers: C1817, C1693, C1601. I think it would be the same as the later McCormick Deering reaper.

If you have the old one to go by, here is what I did on my old sicle mower...
Go to your local building supply (not a big box like lowes or home depot 'cause they won't have this) and buy a iron wood(sometimes called i.p.e(pronounced ee-pay) 36" picket. Depending on availability, you may have to buy an 8' stick. They are dressed 2x2(1-1/2" x 1-1/2") and are stronger than any wood out there. They are cut from brazilian hardwood and imported to the U.S. This wood is so dense, that it can not be pressure treated. It will not open up enough to accept treatment. It is used for decks and docks on middle to upper end homes here in the South.

Thanks Kevin. The pitman for the reaper is all metal about 16 in. long. I think I can fabricate one that will work but would like to have an original. The end of the pitman would be hardest to duplicate. The parts book has a picture.
