I bought a 504 Diesel this spring and have been using it for brush hogging. There is a steady drip of oil coming out the breather tube, like a drip every second. I need to add a quart about every 6 to 8 hours of use. There is some blow by coming out but my dad always had IH diesels and it looks about normal but I am getting a lot more oil drip than I every remember. It doesn't seem to matter if the tractor is running full open or idling the oil drip is the same. This tractor starts great, has plenty of power and has clear exhaust. Any ideas on how to reduce the oil drip? Is there some type of baffle in the breather tube? I have 15W40 oil in it now. Would heavier oil help? Thanks for the help.

Well first you should see if the Brillo Pad is in there . As far as the qt. every 6-8 hours well with the 15-40 that may be a part of it you should be using a stright 30 weight seires 3 oil , now i know that i will get beat up on this but that is what they call for on that engine and myself i run what the BOOK CALLS FOR . Now the engine may be getting tired as this may be the biggest problem . As long as it is running run it till ya start chasen the skitters away.
