I just bought a 1963 International 140, what is the difference in it compared to the Farmall 140?

THANKS

Greg: Nat is right as it applies to your 1963 - 140. It wasn't until 1968 that the decals changed. Up to and including 1967 all row crops large and small were decaled Farmall as the main decal on side of hood. All Industrials, Standards and Utilities were decaled as International. This is as it applies to American built tractors.

Beginning in 1968 all American built International tractors were decaled as International. Row crops then had the word Farmall in small letters on the model badge.

For the most part this occured at model change between 04-06 and 44-56 series. Two models were caught in mid production, those being the 140 and 656. There were new 140s and 656s around most of 1968 with the older type decals.

The 140 is directly descended from the A, Super A, 100 and 130. On those tractors, the difference between Farmall and International was the International had a square front axle tube and possibly a foot throttle.

You may have an industrial version, but read on:

In 1963, IH started reducing the prominence of the FARMALL badging on its tractors, so while I can't say with any authority at all, it may very well be that while your 140 is still a "Farmall" even though the side-badges on the hood say International. The serial number tag will tell the tale. Look for F-140 or similar.

THANKS for the info!

Greg: Which type grill does your 140 have? 140s changed mid 1963 from 40-60 type grill to 04-06 type grill. If it has the 04-06 type grill, very likely someone mistakenly used the wrong decal.

Tractors with 40-60 grill will have chrome plated decals, while all later 140s had the adhesive type. Very easy to interchange that adhesive type.

My grill is sheet metal with perforated holes, and has vertical formed ribs. Also all of my emblems are decals, not metal.

THANKS

Greg: That is the newer type grill introduced in mid 1963 on all 04 and 06 series tractors. Your decals should be the adhesive type as you have, but not printed as you have. As I said before someone has put on the wrong decals for that year if your tractor is Farmall. You have the round adjustable front axle and no foot throttle? right. You read my entire earlier posting on this matter. Is the word Farmall above the 140 badge in small print? It sounds to me as though you have post 1967 - 140 decals.

I looked at the serial number tag with a magnifying glass and all you can read is the stamped serial number, all paint is missing.
Right now there is no Farmall any where on the 140 badage, also there is no foot throttle.
The serial number ends with a "J" for rockford clutch. I don't see any traces of yellow paint under the red.

THANKS
