You guys are going to have to foregive me for the questions...you must understand that I have hung around a courtroom all my life with clean hands...not greasy stained hands...I have an H engine in 100 pieces...I was asked if the crank was standard or not? Duh! Is this thing marked in some way to show if it is standard or has been ground? In addition, I have 3 H engines here that I have gotten into...all 3 of them have different pistons. Flat ones, then a step piston with recess on only one side with the other side flat and then this one with recesses on both sides in the top...high spot in middle...Does anyone have this figured out already?

The crank may, or, may not, be marked. It is always best to measure them. The machinist will do it. There were also two different sizes from the factory. Piston choice should be made on quality first. If they are good, (measure to spec with a proper micrometer), I would go with the ones with the highest dome (most volume in the part above the top of the cylinder. This will give the highest compression (a good thing). Do not worry about the gas causing problems, the compression will not be above the use of today's regular fuel. Be careful with piston ring end gap, and skirt to sleeve clearance to assure a tight good engine. Use the book.
Good assembly awaits.

Here are the pistons - I do not have a picture of the plain step head yet...

The crankshaft SHOULD have been stamped if it has been ground. BUT the only way to know for sure is to take it to a machine shop and have them measure it. If you are rebuilding the engine, have it measured by a shop for sure - no sense going through the work of overhaul and having a worn crankshaft!

Don't mix pieces between engines, especially rod caps as they are bored matched to only one rod.
